This is not a standard teaching role. At Pathway Academy Zone, you will be working with young people who need more than just lessons — they need structure, belief, and someone who can genuinely engage them. We are a new school in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, and because of that, this role is rare. You will not just be delivering a curriculum handed to you — you will help shape how learning is delivered here, have a direct line to leadership, real influence over the school’s development, and the opportunity to build something that lasts.

Vocational Areas You Will Teach:

  • Catering
  • Hair and Beauty
  • Sport
  • Health & Social Care
  • Childcare

Alongside vocational delivery, you will contribute to our wider Career Pathways programme, supporting employability skills, personal development and citizenship. You will work with small groups and on a 1:1 basis, helping learners who may have faced barriers in mainstream education to re‑engage and progress.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Deliver engaging, practical sessions in one or more vocational subjects
  • Support the Career Pathways programme, including employability, personal development and life skills
  • Adapt teaching approaches to suit individual learning needs
  • Work closely with learners with SEMH and additional needs
  • Build strong relationships to improve behaviour and engagement
  • Monitor progress and maintain clear, accurate records
  • Support learners towards positive outcomes, qualifications, and progression routes

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience within one or more relevant vocational fields
  • Experience working with young people, ideally within alternative provision or similar settings
  • Ability to engage learners who may be disengaged from education
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A calm, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Relevant vocational qualification or industry experience

Desirable:

  • Experience with SEN or SEMH learners
  • Experience in alternative provision or PRU settings
  • Teaching, training, or assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
  • Team Teach or equivalent de‑escalation training

Why Join Pathway Academy Zone:

  • Small group sizes with real, visible impact
  • Full school holidays – term-time contract
  • Strong leadership with a clear vision and safeguarding culture
  • Protected CPD time with weekly collaborative planning
  • Training in trauma‑informed practice, SEMH, and behaviour de‑escalation (Team Teach)
  • Support with vocational qualifications and alternative accreditation pathways
  • Opportunities to shape the curriculum and CPD offer
  • Salary progression linked to performance and school development

Leadership and Support:

Pathway Academy Zone has an experienced headteacher in place with a clear vision for the school. You will be supported by a leadership team with strong experience in alternative provision and a commitment to getting it right — for staff as well as learners.

Safeguarding:

Pathway Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and safer recruitment processes. References will be obtained prior to interview.

How to Apply:

If you are looking for a role where you can genuinely make a difference — and help build something from the ground up — we want to hear from you.
