The Director of Integration is a senior technical leadership role responsible for defining and executing PathHub's integration strategy across enterprise healthcare environments. This role designs, builds and governs integrations between PathHub and external systems, with a primary focus on LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems). Combining deep hands-on software development with healthcare interoperability expertise, the Director of Integration owns the full integration ecosystem - from architectural strategy and standards through delivery, reliability, scalability and long-term evolution.
While serving as the technical authority for interoperability, this role remains an active developer across Mirth Connect (JavaScript), Python and C#/.NET. The position is critical to enabling seamless clinical workflows, accelerating customer onboarding, supporting enterprise growth and ensuring PathHub's interoperability platform scales reliably. This is a permanent senior leadership role offering high autonomy, flexible remote working and responsibility for building and managing PathHub's integration function as the platform scales.
PathHub is a rapidly growing digital pathology and laboratory interoperability platform designed to modernise diagnostic workflows across healthcare systems. By connecting laboratories, clinicians, scanners, LIMS and enterprise hospital infrastructure, PathHub enables seamless case management, secure image access, and scalable clinical reporting across both NHS and private environments. As PathHub expands into larger enterprise deployments and supports an increasing number of customer integrations, the need for robust, high-quality interoperability has become critical.
We are therefore recruiting a Director of Integration to lead the design, delivery and long-term evolution of our integration ecosystem, ensuring PathHub can onboard customers efficiently, scale reliably, and continue to deliver safe, connected clinical workflows at enterprise level. PathHub operates across the UK with offices and laboratory partners based in Windermere, Manchester and Bolton, supporting both regional and national enterprise healthcare customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Integration Strategy & Architecture
- Define PathHub's enterprise integration strategy and long-term interoperability roadmap
- Establish architectural standards for HL7, FHIR, API and custom interface solutions
- Design scalable, secure and high-availability integration frameworks
- Own data models, transformation patterns and interface governance
- Ensure compliance with healthcare security, privacy and regulatory requirements
- Integration Delivery & Ownership
- Lead end-to-end delivery of integrations between PathHub and LIMS/PACS platforms
- Prioritize integration initiatives in alignment with product, commercial and clinical goals
- Oversee interface design, data mapping, orchestration and deployment
- Own technical documentation, interface specifications and support processes
- Serve as escalation point for complex integration challenges
- Hands-On Development
- Build and maintain Mirth Connect integration channels (JavaScript)
- Develop supporting services and automation in Python
- Implement APIs and background services in C#/.NET
- Handle message transformation, validation, routing, retries and error handling
- Produce high-quality, maintainable and well-tested code
- Healthcare Interoperability Leadership
- Act as PathHub's subject-matter expert for HL7 v2.x, FHIR and clinical data exchange
- Lead onboarding of new customers and enterprise integrations
- Partner with clients, vendors and healthcare IT teams on interface design
- Troubleshoot complex production interoperability issues
- Ensure end-to-end data accuracy across pathology and imaging workflows
- Technical & Team Leadership
- Provide leadership and day-to-day management of the integration engineering team
- Mentor engineers on interoperability standards, interface design and best practices
- Review architecture, designs and code for quality, security and scalability
- Establish development standards, testing approaches and deployment practices
- Build and scale the integration function in line with PathHub's growth
- Operational Excellence & Reliability
- Own production interface performance, uptime and monitoring
- Implement observability, alerting, automation and recovery processes
- Drive continuous improvement in reliability, onboarding speed and tooling
- Define SLAs and operational support models for integrations
- Cross-Functional & Business Impact
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Clinical and Commercial teams to align integrations with business goals
- Support enterprise sales with technical integration strategy and customer discussions
- Evaluate third-party systems, vendors and integration opportunities
- Translate business requirements into scalable interoperability solutions
Role Details
- Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (standard business hours)
- Location: Remote-first, with occasional travel to customer sites or PathHub offices in Windermere, Manchester, or Bolton as required
- Reporting Line: Executive Leadership / CTO / Product & Platform Director
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary £78,500 - £100,000 per annum (gross), depending on experience and seniority
- Equity (Performance-Based KPI Scheme) 1% equity allocation linked to integration delivery KPIs, awarded in structured milestones based on successful completion of agreed objectives. Subject to board approval, vesting schedules, and formal shareholder agreements.
- Bonus Scheme (from Year 1 Onwards) Performance-related bonus scheme after completion of the first 12 months, based on delivery against agreed KPIs and strategic impact.
- Pension Scheme Access to a company pension scheme, with employer contributions in line with statutory and competitive market arrangements.
