What if you could keep everything you enjoy about local government law, while gaining access to a broader range of work, greater flexibility and a genuinely supportive team? Pathfinder Legal Services offers exactly that.
We're looking for an experienced Property Lawyer to join our growing team. Whether you're already working in local government or you're in private practice and looking for something different, this is an opportunity to work on interesting, varied property matters without sacrificing your work-life balance.
Why Pathfinder?
This isn't a traditional in-house legal team. Pathfinder Legal Services is an award-winning Alternative Business Structure owned by Cambridgeshire County Council and Central Bedfordshire Council, providing legal services to more than 100 public sector organisations. That means you'll enjoy the stability and purpose of public sector work while benefiting from the breadth, quality and professionalism of a specialist legal practice.
Perhaps most importantly, you'll only be expected in the office one day per month, giving you the flexibility to build your working week around your life, not the other way around.
The Role
You'll become part of a collaborative property team of experienced lawyers and dedicated paralegals, handling a genuinely diverse caseload across two local authorities. No two days are quite the same. Rather than becoming pigeonholed into one niche area, you'll build expertise across a broad spectrum of public sector property work. Your work will include:
- Commercial property transactions
- Lease renewals and landlord and tenant matters
- Right to Buy transactions
- Leasehold work
- Disposal and acquisition of land
- Regeneration and development projects
- School site redevelopments
- Section 106 related property transactions
- Disposal of farm estates and strategic land
Why Lawyers Choose Pathfinder
Many of our lawyers have joined from local government because they wanted more variety. Others have joined from private practice because they wanted to spend less time recording billable hours and more time doing meaningful legal work. Here you'll find:
- One office day per month
- Interesting, high-quality property work
- Dedicated paralegal support
- Separate finance and administrative teams to reduce non-legal tasks
- A collaborative team of experienced property specialists
- Flexible hybrid working
- Excellent work-life balance
- Genuine opportunities to influence projects that shape communities
Perhaps the biggest difference is that you see the outcome of your work. Instead of completing transactions that disappear into a file, you'll help deliver regeneration projects, schools, housing and community assets that make a lasting difference.
About You
We're keen to hear from qualified solicitors, legal executives and experienced property lawyers who have strong commercial property experience. Experience within local government would be welcomed, particularly around Right to Buy or wider public sector property work, but we're equally interested in speaking with lawyers from private practice who are looking for a more rewarding and balanced career. You'll be commercially minded, pragmatic and enjoy building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
Benefits
Alongside competitive pay, Pathfinder offers:
- Local Government Pension Scheme
- Minimum 26 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service
- Option to purchase additional annual leave
- Flexible hybrid working
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Family-friendly policies
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Ongoing mentoring and professional development
Looking for Something Better?
If you're looking for high-quality property work, genuine flexibility and the opportunity to build a long-term career with an ambitious and growing legal practice, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch for a confidential conversation to find out more.
