Role – Issuing Authority (Ironmaking)

Salary – Competitive

Location – Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN16 1XA

Pattern of Work – 42 hours

What you need to know about the role

We're offering an exciting opportunity to join the Ironmaking Department as an Issuing Authority, a critical role at the heart of our Management of Work system.

This position plays a vital part in ensuring work activities across the plant are planned, coordinated and executed safely, helping to protect our people, assets and operations. Working closely with operational teams, engineering personnel, contractors and safety specialists, you will be responsible for supporting the safe delivery of maintenance and project activities across the department.

As an Issuing Authority, you will apply Management of Work principles and business standards to review, coordinate and authorise work activities, helping to ensure all required controls are in place before work begins. You will assess work packs, permits and supporting documentation to verify compliance with relevant procedures and standards, including Isolation & Immobilisation, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Work at Height and other safety-critical requirements.

Success in this role requires strong operational awareness and the confidence to challenge where standards are not met. You will work alongside shift management, operational teams and service providers to ensure hazards, operational restrictions and work activities are properly communicated and controlled.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career within Health & Safety, Operational Coordination or Maintenance Planning. Full training and competency development will be provided to support the successful candidate’s progression and long-term development.

What we need to know about you

We're looking for a highly organised and safety-focused individual who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards.

Experience within manufacturing, heavy industry, engineering, utilities, construction, logistics, process industries or other safety-critical environments would be advantageous, although we are open to candidates who can demonstrate transferable skills and a strong commitment to safe working practices.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • The ability to maintain accurate records and ensure procedures are followed consistently.
  • Good organisational and prioritisation skills, balancing multiple activities in a busy operational environment.
  • Confidence to challenge unsafe practices or incomplete documentation where required.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with contractors, operational teams and engineering personnel.
  • Sound judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
  • A positive, proactive and safety-focused mindset.

Previous experience of permit-to-work systems, contractor coordination, maintenance planning, operations support, health and safety administration or work management processes would be beneficial but is not essential, as training will be provided for the right candidate.
