Program Officer, AI for Health in London

London Full-Time No working from home possible
PATH

Overview

PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. PATH’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Initiative is our flagship technical team working across divisions to deliver evaluation and implementation of AI in health, spanning model evaluation to product development and service innovation. We aim to use AI to address health inequities and support evidence-based deployment in low- and middle-income countries.

We’re looking for a program officer to help advance AI health tools, including generative AI-based clinical decision support, AI patient simulations for health worker training, and mental health chatbots—from evidence generation to real-world deployment.

You’ll sit at the center of PATH's AI for Health team with visibility across the portfolio, working daily with project leads, funders, and international partners. This role is a strong fit for an early-career project manager seeking a path into global health AI.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Project Delivery : Own operational processes across the AI for Health portfolio: maintain a live view of implementation timelines, contract and subcontract milestones, and payment deadlines; identify slippages early and flag them while there’s time to mitigate; assist project leadership with course-correcting and prepare updates for donors and other partners. Track risks to delivery, ensure each has an owner and a mitigation plan, and escalate to project leadership as needed.
  • Support planning and delivery of project meetings, workshops, and partner convenings, from setting agendas and pre-reads to preparing supporting materials and coordinating with local partners for venues and travel, including follow-up on action items.
  • Flex across the wider AI Initiative to support ad hoc programmatic and operational needs.
  • Manage Partners and Deliverables : Serve as a consistent point of contact for project partners; collect deliverables against contractual due dates; route them for PATH review and approval; and maintain smooth payment processes. Keep project trackers accurate so the team has a reliable view of partner deliverables, timelines, and payment milestones. Coordinate progress reporting to donors with project leadership, e.g., by supporting development of slide decks and written reports. Quality-check high-visibility deliverables before they go out (proofread and coordinate leadership review and sign-off).
  • Research Operations & Knowledge Management : Own PATH’s research oversight and IRB processes for the AI for Health portfolio, ensuring all research aligns with relevant ethical standards. Manage study records from submission through closeout, maintaining documentation through internal and external review. Keep approvals live and reviews moving by flagging expiring approvals, gaps, and bottlenecks. Keep project files organized, current, and access-controlled so partners and new team members can find what they need.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, global health, social sciences, international development, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of professional experience in program management, project coordination, or a similar role, ideally within a global health or research organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and deadlines across complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences.
  • High attention to detail, including handling of compliance-sensitive documentation.
  • Comfortable collaborating across time zones with international teams and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in global or digital health.
  • Experience working with collaborators in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or other diverse contexts.
  • Experience working within a matrixed nonprofit or NGO structure.
  • Curiosity about AI and its applications in health.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (occasional travel up to 10% of time).
  • Opportunity to engage in primary research activities as a growth area, if responsibilities are in hand.

We know great candidates won’t always meet every listed qualification. If you’re excited about the role and think you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply. To be selected, you must have legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom. We’re searching worldwide for experienced leaders and passionate emerging professionals in many disciplines—from science and engineering to accounting to information technology—who share our belief that better health moves humanity forward.
