Overview
PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing health challenges. PATH\'s AI, Digital, and Data Initiative cuts across the organization\'s work, developing and deploying innovations that address global health and development challenges. Its portfolio includes generative AI and advanced machine learning to accelerate biomedical discovery and strengthen regulatory systems; the design and scale-up of digital health tools and platforms to improve safety and reach of healthcare delivery; and the development of data infrastructure and services that put high-quality, actionable data where it is needed most. PATH seeks a Communications Officer to work alongside the Chief AI Officer and shape how the initiative presents itself to the world. This role is for someone with strong communications instincts who can move across formats and audiences, from turning dense technical papers into accessible summaries to preparing talking points for conferences. The role is anchored in high-quality writing, with outputs that include strategy, external engagement, and channel management.
Responsibilities
- Strategy and planning
- Develop, own and iteratively refine the communications strategy for the AI, Digital, and Data Initiative, setting clear objectives, target audiences, channels and success metrics.
- Maintain a forward-looking communications calendar that anticipates milestones, publications, events and funding cycles across the portfolio to ensure visibility at the right moments.
- Conduct regular audience analysis and landscape monitoring to stay responsive to external developments, emerging conversations, and shifting funder priorities.
- Advise the Chief AI Officer and project leads on proactive opportunities, including media moments, thought-leadership windows, and policy-engagement openings, and help develop positioning ahead of them.
- Contribute communications inputs to funding proposals and help frame programme narratives for donor cultivation.
- Content and production
- Lead the production of high-quality outputs across the portfolio, including project briefs, plain-language summaries, and case studies that translate technical work into donor-ready narratives.
- Draft blog posts, feature articles, newsletters, and other content for global health, AI and development audiences.
- Write social media copy and coordinate assets and scheduling across platforms such as LinkedIn, aligned to each channel\'s register.
- Prepare slide decks and talking points for the Chief AI Officer and other team leads for conferences, donor meetings, internal briefings, and panels.
- Produce annual and periodic impact reports synthesising results and learnings across the initiative.
- Coordinate internal communications to keep PATH-wide audiences engaged with the initiative\'s work, including internal SharePoint pages.
- Maintain a repository of core assets (key messages, programme descriptions, bios, boilerplate, imagery) for consistent material production and ensure outputs comply with PATH branding, style, and editorial guidelines.
- Coordinate leadership reviews and approvals for high-visibility products.
- External engagement and events
- Plan and deliver external engagement activities (webinars, panels, roundtables, conference participations, hosted events).
- Manage logistics for speaker participation and convenings, including invitations, agendas, run-of-show, and follow-up.
- Monitor publications, reports, and sector conversations to flag opportunities to contribute the initiative\'s voice and provide timely intelligence on the external landscape.
- Represent the initiative in cross-organisational communications forums and PATH-wide working groups, ensuring alignment with broader priorities.
- Messaging, brand, and channels
- Serve as the primary liaison between the AI, Digital, and Data Initiative and PATH\'s central communications team, aligning initiative communications with PATH branding and messaging frameworks.
- Develop and steward the initiative\'s core messaging architecture, including strategic narrative, programme descriptions, and audience-specific talking points, updating as the portfolio evolves.
- Coordinate with project leads, external partners, and other counterparts to ensure joint or co-branded communications are clear, cleared, and mutually beneficial.
- Provide light-touch guidance to team members on communications best practices for non-technical audiences and external representation.
- Collaborate with PATH\'s digital and web teams to keep the initiative\'s web pages current, including programme descriptions, publications, and news.
- Track and report on digital engagement metrics and use insights to refine the approach over time.
- Explore emerging formats and platforms (e.g., short-form video, data visualisation) to communicate the initiative\'s work more effectively.

- Demonstrated track record of developing and executing communications strategies from the ground up.
