Paterson & Cooke (UK) Ltd are seeking recent or soon-to-be mining, process, or mechanical engineering graduates to join our team in a full‑time position at our office in Cornwall. The successful applicant will work on a variety of projects in the mining and resources industry. The work entails the design of slurry pumping and pipeline systems and related equipment ranging from concept development through to detailed design, commissioning, and operational support. The successful applicant will be provided with on‑the‑job training and mentoring to support them in their development. They will have the opportunity to conduct global site visits with Project Managers and be directly involved in the design and engineering of pipelines, material test data interpretation and evaluation.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Hydraulic analysis and design of water and slurry pump and pipeline systems
- Mechanical design and engineering of mining systems, including process plants, pumps, pipelines and related infrastructure
- Selection, specification and evaluation of system components (pumps, piping valves, etc)
- Technical communication, including specifications, report writing and presentations
- Laboratory work (slurry and material testing, R&D projects etc) as required
- Delivering allocated tasks and meeting objectives as agreed with the Project Manager
- Performing design or laboratory activities with the supervision and mentoring of senior staff
- Co‑operate and communicate effectively with the project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
- Attending monthly project meetings to better understand the client requirements
- Providing support in the delivery of projects as directed by the Project Manager
- Preparation of proposal documents with support from the Team Lead
- Assisting in preparing schedules of work as directed by the Team Lead
- To apply engineering principles to logic and design
- Create documentation in line with company standards and maintain document management systems and schedules
- Understanding and applying Health & Safety regulations
Minimum Requirements and Competencies:
- Qualified to Degree Level or Higher in a suitable subject (related to Engineering)
- Able to demonstrate awareness of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, pipelines, pumping systems or mining and processing
- Previous experience of being on a project site, possibly gained through a work placement
- Able to demonstrate an awareness and understanding of computer aided design preparing technical drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, GAs and Pipe Drawings)
- Ability to work both independently under direction and within a team
- Strong presentation and technical writing skills, especially technical reports
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing project requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence and client satisfaction
- Able and willing to travel locally and internationally
- Eligible to work in the UK
