About The Role

We're looking for an experienced and driven

Reliability Manager to join our Edinburgh Bakery and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our engineering function.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a skilled and established reliability team while being a key member of a high-performing Engineering Leadership Team that is committed to delivering operational excellence across the site.

In this role, you will be responsible for maximising equipment reliability and supporting continuous production through the implementation of engineering and reliability best practices.

You will lead the development and execution of the site's reliability strategy, ensuring engineering resources, maintenance programmes and asset improvement initiatives are aligned to business objectives and deliver sustainable performance improvements.

Working closely with the Engineering Manager and wider site leadership team, you will have the opportunity to drive meaningful change across the bakery, identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance equipment performance and embed a culture of continuous improvement.

Your leadership will be instrumental in developing team capability, delivering sustainable improvements and helping the site achieve its operational and strategic objectives.

Just as importantly, you'll act as an ambassador for our company values, championing safety, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement while creating an environment where both people and performance can thrive.

  • Main Responsibilities
  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring Health & Safety remains the highest priority, promoting safe systems of work and full compliance with site standards and procedures.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Reliability Technicians and Planner, building team capability and driving a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Set clear objectives and performance measures for direct reports, providing regular feedback and support to enable individual development and successful delivery of departmental KPIs.
  • Own and drive site reliability performance metrics including MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, asset availability and OEE, ensuring improvement plans are in place to deliver agreed targets.
  • Drive equipment reliability and asset performance by ensuring robust preventive and predictive maintenance strategies are effectively planned, scheduled and executed across the site.
  • Take ownership of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring data integrity, effective resource planning and 100% compliance with planned maintenance schedules.
  • Develop and maintain asset criticality assessments and lifecycle plans to support long-term operational sustainability, risk reduction and input into capital investment prioritisation.
  • Support the effective management of the engineering budget, identifying opportunities to optimise costs while maintaining operational performance and reliability standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities following equipment failures and downtime incidents, ensuring sustainable corrective actions are implemented to eliminate repeat issues and improve asset reliability.
  • Support the specification, procurement, installation and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with business requirements.
  • Drive the application and development of condition monitoring techniques including vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis and other predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and wider site teams to develop and deliver engineering improvement plans that enhance reliability, efficiency, productivity and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Use reliability-centred maintenance principles, data analysis and continuous improvement methodologies to identify opportunities for performance enhancement and asset lifecycle optimisation.
  • Act as an ambassador for our company values, fostering collaboration, accountability and a continuous improvement mindset across the Engineering and Operations teams.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams, ideally within a fast-paced FMCG or manufacturing environment, with a strong track record of improving asset reliability and site performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply continuous improvement methodologies and problem-solving tools to drive operational excellence and deliver sustainable performance gains.
  • Strong working knowledge of Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and defect elimination methodologies.
  • Experience using reliability and maintenance data to identify trends, develop improvement plans and support strategic decision-making.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and engage stakeholders at all levels across the business.
  • Sound knowledge and practical application of Predictive Maintenance (Pd M) techniques, using data-driven insights to maximise equipment performance and minimise downtime.
  • Excellent understanding of maintenance planning and scheduling processes, ensuring resources are effectively prioritised to support operational and engineering objectives.
  • Proficient in the use of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), with experience leveraging system data to improve maintenance effectiveness, compliance and asset reliability.
  • Analytical and proactive in approach, with strong root cause analysis and decision-making skills that support continuous improvement and long-term reliability outcomes.
