The Group Raw Material Technologist plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the company’s raw material and supplier database, ensuring all materials and suppliers meet stringent quality, legal, and food safety standards. This position oversees compliance with customer requirements, audit protocols, and legislative obligations while maintaining a comprehensive and accessible system for raw material and packaging information. The role also supports co‑packing sites with accurate technical data, coordinates regulatory queries, and provides guidance on new products and legislation when needed. Working closely with technical, development, and procurement teams, the position ensures that only approved, safe, and legal suppliers and materials are used across the business, safeguarding product integrity and supporting efficient operations.
Main Responsibilities
- System Management: Maintain and manage raw material and supplier systems (Hamilton Grant, SharePoint, Power BI tools or equivalent), ensuring accurate, up-to-date records and full compliance with legal, customer, and audit requirements.
- Risk Assessment & Compliance: Collect and analyze supplier data to support risk assessments, approvals, vulnerability evaluations, and chain of custody for all raw materials.
- Technical Support: Provide raw material information and intake specifications to sites; assist with BRC accreditation, retailer requirements, and audits (customer, third‑party, and sustainability programs such as UTZ/RFA and RSPO).
- Supplier Liaison: Engage with suppliers on ingredient and packaging issues, drive improvements, and ensure raw material testing schedules are completed in full.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with procurement, development, and technical teams to maintain approved supplier lists, manage documentation, and build strong relationships across functions.
- Data & Documentation: Support the collation of technical and customer information for projects; maintain customer‑specific raw material databases and ensure all quality, food safety, and risk evaluation systems are fully updated.
- Issue Resolution: Provide timely support for escalations or rejections, ensuring all incidents are communicated and documented appropriately.
Who We Are Looking For
- Strong knowledge of raw materials, legal requirements, and food safety standards (including HACCP).
- Food science background or relevant industry experience.
- Food Hygiene certification.
- Ability to interpret test results and certificates for raw materials.
- Understanding of supplier QA processes and documentation requirements.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage workload independently.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work at pace.
- Proficient in data analysis and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with cloud‑based systems and basic IT tools (SAP, Word, spreadsheets, LIMS).
