All members of our sports faculty have the primary aim of encouraging children to enjoy playing sport. This can be achieved through raising the standard and level of participation of every student, regardless of their ability. In addition, sports faculty staff are expected to:
- Have sound and appropriate subject knowledge for the sport they are teaching.
- Promote good student progress and outcomes.
- Manage behaviour and the teaching area effectively to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Promote the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
- Instil the St George’s sporting values of Leadership, Pursuing Excellence, Enjoyment, Honesty and Teamwork.
- Uphold the values of sportsmanship and etiquette above all others when playing sport, whether competitively or non‑competitively.
PE and Games Teachers are considered full members of the teaching staff and will, dependent on strengths and experience, utilise their skills to lead lessons, manage sports teams and officiate during matches and tournaments. This includes:
- Handling all aspects related to the provision of PE and Games teaching, including fixtures.
- Teaching students from Early Years to Key Stage 3 as required.
Working Hours
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 08.00–16.00, plus one after school club. Wednesday and Friday finish follows afternoon fixtures. The role is term time only, plus occasional inset days and weekend tournaments.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting students
- Support student learning, working alongside other members of the sports department.
- Set high expectations whilst encouraging students to interact and work collaboratively.
- Implement appropriate tracking and assessment systems to support student progress.
Supporting the department
- Communication with parents including reporting and parent‑teacher meetings.
- Liaising with opposition staff.
- Supporting festivals, tournaments and whole school sporting events.
- Assisting with student tracking.
- Assisting with curriculum/lesson planning, uploading to our parent communications tool, Toddle.
Supporting the school
- Assist with pastoral care / recording all concerns and incidents on our safeguarding management system, CPOMS.
- Supervisory duties as required by the school.
- Attend staff meetings, inset days and professional training as required.
Renumeration
St George’s has its own salary scale. Lunch is provided during school terms and limited parking is available on site. The school operates a defined contribution pension scheme.
