Passmore & Oliver Partners is a specialist legal services strategy and regulation consultancy — recognised globally as experts on the changing legal market. We work with law firms, regulators and investors across the UK and internationally on some of the most complex and consequential regulatory questions in the profession. We are growing and looking for a Senior Risk & Regulatory Consultant to join our team.
The role is a senior technical position with real independence at the heart of our UK regulatory practice. You will manage your own portfolio of law firm clients, independently handle SRA applications, lead regulatory due diligence work on transactions, and act as a technical authority within the team. You will also be expected to take personal ownership of building and developing client relationships, and to contribute to the thought leadership and market commentary that underpins the firm's position as a world-leading expert.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning and managing a portfolio of law firm client relationships with a high degree of independence
- Providing expert, commercially grounded advice on SRA compliance, AML obligations and wider regulatory matters
- Independently handling SRA applications — including new law firm authorisations, ABS applications and restructuring matters
- Taking a leading role on regulatory due diligence exercises in deal and transaction contexts
- Keeping clients informed of regulatory developments and advising on strategic and operational implications
- Taking personal ownership of business development — identifying, pursuing and converting new client opportunities
- Acting as an ambassador for Passmore & Oliver Partners in the market — at events, in publications and in professional networks
- Contributing to quality assurance and, over time, mentoring junior colleagues
What we're looking for:
Essential:
- Extensive experience of SRA rules and processes — gained inside the SRA or in law firm compliance, in-house or in a consultancy
- Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships independently and to exercise sound professional judgement
- Experience of independently handling SRA applications including new firm authorisations and ABS applications
- A track record of, or clear appetite for, business development — this is a core expectation of the role
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional personal presentation
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy in a remote environment
Desirable:
- Good knowledge of AML requirements applicable to law firms
- Experience of CLC, IAA or ICO compliance
- Experience of regulatory due diligence in deal or transaction contexts
- Interest in or experience of cross-border legal regulatory matters
- Interest in legal market investment, regulatory reform or legal technology
What we offer:
- £52,500–£65,000, depending on experience, with scope for progression beyond this range
- Discretionary annual bonus scheme
- Private healthcare insurance (after 6 months' service)
- 7.5% employer pension contribution (employee contributes 3.75%)
- 28 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Primarily home-based, with flexible and part-time options available
How to apply:
We consider applications on a rolling basis as we grow. We are keen to bring in new talent urgently to help us with our increasing client roster. To apply for either role, please send your CV and a short covering email explaining why you believe you are a strong fit.
Top tips:
- Make sure that your cover letter addresses the essential and desirable criteria.
- Tell us how your experience transfers from your current role to what we are looking for.
- Be specific and explicit in your examples.
- Make it easy for us to see how you stand out from other applicants.
- Show us that you have thought about what we want rather than just sharing your generic CV.
