Our mission Scope is revolutionising the way physical data is captured. We’re building the best AI-native data collection layer for the 2 billion field workers on the front line of inspection. Along the way, we’re building the world’s largest dataset on the condition of the built world and the decisions experts make about it. It’s a $2T market and we’re just getting started. We have grown revenue 10x in the last year and on track to reach 10M ARR in 2026. Our customers inspect facilities and products for companies including AstraZeneca and SpaceX. We’ve assembled a best-in-class team: people from institutions like Imperial, Carnegie Mellon and Oxford, and from firms like Goldman Sachs, Flexport and Amazon. Since launching from Entrepreneurs First in 2024, we’ve raised $24m in funding from Susa Ventures and Index Ventures.
About the role
As a Technical Lead, you will be a core driver of both our technology and our product strategy. You won't just be handed tickets; you will own an entire product and domain area end to end. You will act as a force multiplier shaping our technical architecture, connecting it tightly to our business goals, and aligning multiple engineers around a coherent vision. We're looking for an exceptional technical leader who wants to invent what inspection software should look like in a post-AI world.
What you'll do:
- Drive Technical Evolution: Own the long term technical strategy of your domain. You will define how our systems should evolve over time, identifying and resolving structural limitations long before they impact production.
- Simplify Complex Systems: Design systems that solve incredibly complex backend and AI challenges but remain simple, adaptable, and widely understood by the team. You will ruthlessly remove accidental complexity across the codebase.
- Bridge Architecture & Strategy: Connect our technical architecture directly to Scope’s product and business goals. You will balance ideal architecture with real world startup constraints exceptionally well.
- Coach and Mentor: Actively mentor and grow the engineers around you, upleveling the team's technical capabilities, fostering a culture of high craftsmanship, and guiding peers through complex technical challenges.
- Multiply the Team's Impact: Align multiple engineers around a coherent technical direction. You will introduce design patterns and technical defaults that up level the entire engineering organisation.
- Own a Product Domain: Act as the strategic owner of a core product area, making it a competitive advantage for Scope. You’ll build a deep, continuous intuition for our users, understanding their workflows better than anyone else.
- Build for the Future: Think in compounding strategies rather than isolated features. You will anticipate the second order effects of architectural decisions to ensure our systems are built to be easily changed, not just correct today.
Who you are
We believe great teams are made up of highly agentic "managers of one." You should apply if you are deeply technical, love staying close to the code, and thrive when given absolute ownership of problems.
- Experienced: You have 7+ years of experience (with a track record of leading technical direction) and have built up enough scar tissue to inherently know which technical decisions matter and which don't.
- Product Minded: You care deeply about metrics, users, and data. You don't just build what is asked; you define what matters in a domain and set meaningful metrics to measure success.
- A Natural Leader: You lead by example and through influence. You enjoy mentoring other engineers, driving alignment on complex architectural shifts, and shipping high-quality results.
- AI & Data Enthusiast: You are excited to engineer how we feed context to AI models (storing, fetching, and selecting standards) and want to design how unstructured data seamlessly flows through a reliable, enterprise-grade system.
Compensation and benefits:
- Competitive base salary (benchmarked against top Series A startups) + meaningful equity
- Visa sponsorship available — We welcome top talent globally and will support the visa process
- Dinners + team lunch on Fridays paid for by Scope
- Top‑tier equipment, software, and tools to give you maximum leverage
- Private Healthcare

How to prepare for a job interview at PassFort
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If PassFort uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
