The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established and growing business within the building materials sector, looking to appoint an experienced Area Sales Manager to drive growth across Central Scotland. This is a field-based role offering a high level of autonomy, working alongside a supportive internal account team to develop both new and existing business. It’s an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven individual with strong industry knowledge and established relationships to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure new business opportunities across construction, housebuilding, and trade sectors
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of key accounts, building long-term, profitable relationships
  • Promote a broad range of building materials, working closely with internal teams and suppliers
  • Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and tenders in line with commercial targets
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer demand to identify growth opportunities
  • Collaborate with operations, logistics, and procurement to ensure excellent service delivery
  • Represent the business at customer and supplier events to strengthen relationships
  • Achieve and exceed sales, margin, and growth targets
  • Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and provide regular forecasts to management

Role Overview

  • Deliver a high level of service across an established customer base
  • Build and grow relationships with both new and existing clients
  • Maximise customer spend through proactive account development
  • Regularly visit customers to strengthen partnerships and drive revenue
  • Work closely with suppliers to identify opportunities and improve profitability
  • Stay up to date with product knowledge through ongoing training
  • Support wider business functions where required

About You

  • Proven track record in external sales or business development within building materials / merchanting
  • Strong knowledge of timber and construction products
  • Established network within construction, contractor, or housebuilding sectors in Central Scotland
  • Highly driven with a proactive approach to winning new business
  • Commercially astute with a strong understanding of margins and pricing
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently
  • Positive, ambitious, and target-driven mindset
  • Full UK driving licence
