We have an exciting opportunity for a phlebotomist to join our friendly, progressive team at Belvoir Health Group, to work across our 3 Surgeries in Cropwell Bishop, Bingham and Cotgrave. We are an innovative Practice with the support of a committed administrative team. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity and skills to provide a wide range of services within agreed protocols, to meet the needs of patients, carers, managers and GP Partners.

Main duties of the job

  • The Phlebotomist is accountable to the Nursing Services Manager.
  • To support the GPs and Practice Nursing Team in providing care and advice to patients and carers.
  • To support the surgery administration team in the preparation of patient documentation.
  • To provide a confidential and appropriate response to patients.
  • To liaise closely with Practice Nurses regarding clinical competence, training and development requirements.
  • The Phlebotomist will work as part of the Surgery team, at times without direct supervision, undertaking tasks delegated by the Nursing Services Manager, Practice Nurses, and GPs.

  • To support administration staff in preparation of accurate and up to date patient documentation.
  • To carry out phlebotomy.
  • To gain the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to administer basic life support if necessary.
  • To maintain a professional image and observe confidentiality at all times.
  • To maintain accurate records of patient documentation.
  • To maintain accurate, timely and legible records of patient care including data input and submission of statistical information as required.
  • To prepare and maintain clinical environments according to Health & Safety and Infection Control policies.
  • To contribute to the ordering, distribution and maintenance of equipment.
  • To feedback and report on the condition and welfare of patients to the appropriate clinician.
  • To participate in research and audit activity as appropriate.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as a direct response to surgery requirements.
  • To work in accordance with policies, procedures and protocols recognised by Practice.

  • Qualifications
  • Essential: Good standard of general education, GCSE Mathematics C or above, GCSE English C or above.
  • Desirable: Current First Aid Certificate, Venepuncture.
  • Experience
    • Essential: Experience of working with the general public.
    • Desirable: Experience of working within General Practice.
  • Knowledge
    • Desirable: Knowledge of SystmOne.
  • Skills
    • Essential: Excellent communication skills (Written and Oral), IT skills, Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, Problem solving skills, Interpersonal skills.
