What it's about
This London based role is part of the European Private Infrastructure Asset Management team within the Partners Group infrastructure investment team. The team is dedicated to delivering the value from investments in companies and assets made by the infrastructure team on behalf of our clients.
Main Responsibilities
- Working in close cooperation with the investment teams, Operating Directors on the board and management in the portfolio companies to assist in onboarding newly acquired portfolio companies, contributing to the definition and refresh of the strategic plan, assisting the implementation of value creation opportunities supporting ongoing operational improvement, restructuring, or re-engineering initiatives to help maximize value creation.
- Support the development of relationships with underlying management teams, boards of directors, and service providers under the guidance of senior team members.
- Assist senior colleagues in supporting, advising, and challenging management teams, participating in board meetings in an observer or support capacity where appropriate.
- Own non C-Level management relationships (e.g. head of FP&A) and act as a sparring partner on strategic workstreams, incl. ensuring sound business cases.
- Ensure a strong, on-going operational focus, regularly reviewing financial and operational performance of the portfolio companies he/she is involved with, and ensuring agreed goals are achieved.
- Support the due diligence support for prospective investments, with a focus on commercial & operational workstreams and the value creation plan.
- Perform activities related to reporting, monitoring investments, market research, internal requests, and marketing efforts.
- Contribute to the continuous development of asset management processes, tools, best practices, and playbooks.
What we expect
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's and/or MBA is a plus; minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to understand a private equity underwriting and value creation plan (including the P&L, CF and BS). Ability to translate this into action items, and KPIs.
- Exposure to or interest in transformation programs (strategic planning, implementation support).
- Developing functional knowledge of operations and SG&A functions (operational excellence, cost saving and operational transformation / operational restructuring programs, value creation programs), and scaling businesses and experience of implementation of buy-and-build strategies.
- Strong analytical and financial skillset matched with a strong team mentality, as well as the desire to learn and succeed.
- Comfortable interacting with management teams outside-in, can communicate on eye-level with management, and build credibility with senior stakeholders over time.
- Foundational understanding of integrated business planning (P&L, Cash Flow & Balance Sheet), financing and valuation.
Work background:
- Ideally one or several of the following: Early-career experience in a transformation role or corporate development function within a corporate environment, including exposure to value creation or transformation initiatives.
- Experience in an international working environment.
- Operational and/or strategy consulting firm (had touchdowns with PE but not only for DD but for strategy implementation, value creation or restructuring expertise).
- Internship or early-career experience at a Private markets firm or within private equity-backed businesses.
- Exposure to infrastructure (sub-sectors) is a plus, not a must.
