Job Summary

The Underwriter will be actively involved in underwriting a portfolio of Assumed Retro, London Market D&F, Global, and International reinsurance within the Global Catastrophe portfolio.

About the Role

  • Underwriting a world-class portfolio of reinsurance and retrocessional catastrophe accounts;
  • Managing catastrophe loss evaluation and reporting for the accounts underwritten;
  • Ensuring that guidelines, plans and policies are adhered to;
  • Strengthening and building client and broker relationships;
  • Supporting and contributing to strategy and action planning;
  • Acquiring, analysing and reporting on market, business and technical developments;
  • Making underwriting decisions within the authorized limit;
  • Supporting the underwriting and portfolio steering of the worldwide cat reinsurance portfolio as required.

Work Experience and Qualification

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of retro, reinsurance and insurance structures;
  • Established relationships with brokers in the reinsurance market;
  • Intimate knowledge of reinsurance pricing techniques and catastrophe models.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent information technology skills;
  • An impeccable work ethic, and the ability and commitment to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and organizational skills.

Work Experience and Education

  • Preferably 8+ years, but a minimum of 5 years experience in the reinsurance industry, including progressive experience of catastrophe market dynamics.
  • Preferably a university degree in a numerate discipline.
  • Relevant professional designations would be an asset.
