What You'll Do
As a Claims Adjuster, you will independently manage a book of cargo claims while delivering Parsyl's excellent customer service. You will support clients from First Notice of Loss (FNOL) until settlement, as well as supporting recovery and subrogation efforts. This role requires strong independent judgment and decision-making abilities to manage claims autonomously while knowing when to escalate complex matters. The role requires cross-collaboration across Parsyl's teams, from Data Science to Finance, and comfort working with technology platforms as we continue to build out our claims administration system. Strong candidates are excellent communicators both verbally and in writing, extremely meticulous, process-oriented, and inquisitive. A customer-focused mindset is crucial.
The Claims Adjuster will report to the Director of Claims and will be based in Parsyl's London office with flexibility for hybrid working.
In this role, you will lead on:
- Cargo Claims Handling
- Independent Claims Management: Manage a book of claims independently, exercising sound judgment on settlement authority and escalation.
- Customer Service: Deliver best-in-class service to customers from FNOL to file closure.
- Claims Handling: Investigate, adjust, and settle cargo and logistics claims with minimal oversight.
- Recovery and Subrogation: Support recovery, subrogation, and salvage operations.
- Client Engagement: Represent Parsyl in broker and client engagement.
- Claims Management: Act as the principal contact throughout the life cycle of a claim, maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Network Management: Manage a network of Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), surveyors, and lawyers.
- Technology and Process Optimization
- Systems Proficiency: Work effectively with claims management platforms and adapt to new technology implementations, including ECF write-back capabilities.
- Process Refinement: Analyze, refine, and iterate on internal processes to improve efficiency and ensure accuracy.
- Reporting: Prepare monthly reports for internal and external audiences.
Requirements
Experience and Expertise
- At least five years experience in cargo claims adjusting, with demonstrated ability to independently manage a book of claims.
- Background may include in-house roles at insurers or carriers, freight forwarders, or broking.
- Experience handling claims of varying complexity.
Skills
- Independent Judgment: Strong decision-making abilities with the confidence to manage claims autonomously while recognizing when to escalate complex matters.
- Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable with picking up the phone and calling stakeholders to get answers to questions.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable working with claims management systems and technology platforms; able to adapt to new systems and processes.
- Organizational Skills: Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to quickly learn and problem-solve with a passion for reducing operational inefficiencies and pain points.
- Collaborative Orientation: Willingness to dig deep and ask questions to ensure a thorough understanding of complex risks.
It's a bonus if you also have:
- Additional language skills, including Spanish.
- Experience specifically in marine cargo claims.
- Previous experience working with an insurtech.
