The Mechanical Project Engineer supports the design, development, manufacture, installation and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment across the Parsons Group.
Working under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, the role provides technical engineering input across all project phases while developing practical competence in a specialist and varied engineering environment.

The Mechanical Project Engineer supports the design, development, manufacture, installation and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment across the Parsons Group.
Working under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, the role provides technical engineering input across all project phases while developing practical competence in a specialist and varied engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineering
- Assist in the design and specification of mechanical systems and equipment, producing engineering calculations, technical reports and design documentation.
- Produce and review engineering drawings using CAD software, including General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Assess project requirements and agree timescales and specifications with clients and the Engineering Manager.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable legislation, standards and company procedures.
- Project support
- Support project engineers across all project phases, including design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Assist in preparing project schedules, cost estimates and procurement documentation.
- Monitor project progress and report issues to the Engineering Manager.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal teams as required.
- Site and technical
- Participate in site surveys, inspections and installations across the UK.
- Prepare risk assessments, method statements and technical procedures.
- Test, evaluate and modify equipment to ensure it is safe, reliable and efficient.
- Analyse and interpret engineering data, providing technical advice where required.
- Health, safety and compliance
- Work in accordance with all relevant health and safety legislation, Parsons procedures and site-specific rules.
- Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks where required.
- Support the company’s Quality Management System and environmental management procedures.
- Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions promptly.
- Continuous improvement
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain accurate engineering records and project documentation.
Essential
About you
- BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Competent in CAD software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors and colleagues.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with an awareness of project management principles.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Knowledge of vessel design to PD5500.
- Experience with ventilation design, ductwork or pipework systems.
- Familiarity with process design and instrumentation control systems.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Experience with fans, pumps, pneumatics or sound attenuation.
- Knowledge of structural steel design.

This role is classified as Regional, with work spanning customer and project sites across the UK.
This role requires a full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across the region.
A company vehicle will be available for site visits where possible, but is not guaranteed.
The majority of travel will be domestic, with occasional international travel required depending on project requirements.
Working pattern
This role is full time and office based at Parsons House, Walsall, with site visits as required by project schedules.
