We Are Seeking
Health, Safety and Environment Officer
For the following vacancy, we are looking for a confident and committed individual who is passionate about the opportunities this role may bring.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Health, Safety and Environmental team at Blackpool Zoo, supporting both the Zoo and the Aquarium of the Lakes. We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for creating a safe, sustainable and legally compliant working environment, someone with the confidence, energy, and commitment to make a genuine difference in a unique and dynamic setting.
This is an ideal role for someone with existing knowledge of health and safety who’s ready to take the next step in their career. Working alongside our HSE Manager and operational teams, you’ll help us drive high standards, promote a strong safety culture, and support the wellbeing of our people, our visitors, and our animals.
Roles & Responsibilities
Your Role in the Team

  • Developing, promoting and helping to implement safe systems of work across the site
  • Carrying out risk assessments and identifying potential hazards and associated risks across a wide range of activities
  • Keeping up to date with current health, safety and environmental legislation, always ensuring compliance
  • Delivering advice, support and guidance to teams on health, safety and environmental issues
  • Supporting the investigation of incidents, identifying root causes, and working with teams to implement corrective actions
  • Educating and supporting staff to embed safe working practices and environmental awareness into their daily roles
  • Carrying out regular audits and inspections across the park to assess compliance and identify improvements
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date HSE records, reports and documentation
  • Supporting the reporting of incidents via the internal HSE reporting system and encouraging a proactive reporting culture
  • Taking an active role in Health & Safety Committee meetings and contributing to group-wide HSE initiatives
  • Assisting with HSE communications, awareness campaigns, and projects
  • Supporting the use and accuracy of internal HSE reporting systems and software
  • Working collaboratively with managers, employees, contractors, and external visitors to ensure best practice is followed
  • Carrying out other relevant duties as required by the HSE Manager
About You
We’re looking for a motivated and confident professional who can bring both technical understanding and strong people skills to the role. You’ll need to be a strong communicator, a logical thinker, and someone who can influence positively across all levels of the organisation.
You’ll Ideally Bring
  • A NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent qualification) – or be working towards one
  • Previous experience in a health, safety and environmental role
  • A sound understanding of health & safety regulations, risk assessment and accident prevention
  • Experience advising staff and contractors on safe working practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • A practical, calm and solution-focused approach to problem-solving
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office (inc Power BI) and incident reporting systems
  • A current UK driving licence (travel between sites may be required)
