An established and growing infrastructure services business is seeking an experienced General Operations Manager to lead and develop its operational delivery teams across a diverse portfolio of traffic management and highways projects. This is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the business owners and offers the opportunity to play a key role in operational performance, service delivery, business growth and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading operational teams, maximising resource utilisation, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Leadership
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operational delivery of all works across the business.
- Ensure operational activities are delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly and to agreed customer standards.
- Oversee delivery across a range of traffic management operations including:
- 12D Traffic Management
- 12AB Traffic Management
- Motorway and strategic road network projects
- Local authority contracts
- Utilities works
- Major schemes and projects
- Drive operational performance, productivity and service excellence.
- Identify and implement operational improvements and efficiencies.
- Support the delivery of strategic business objectives and growth plans.
- Resource Planning & Workforce Management
- Manage the deployment and utilisation of operational personnel across multiple workstreams.
- Lead workforce planning to maximise productivity and operational performance.
- Manage on-call and emergency response arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with working time regulations, welfare requirements and competency standards.
- Develop operational capability through training, mentoring and succession planning.
- Project & Contract Delivery
- Oversee the successful delivery of contracts, projects and schemes from mobilisation through to completion.
- Monitor programme delivery, project performance, operational costs and profitability.
- Build effective relationships with clients, principal contractors, local authorities and key stakeholders.
- Manage operational risk and implement lessons learned initiatives.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote a strong health, safety and compliance culture throughout the business.
- Ensure all activities comply with health & safety legislation, industry regulations and standards, client specifications, and company policies and procedures.
- Lead investigations into operational incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
- Commercial & Financial Management
- Deliver operational activities within agreed budgets.
- Maximise operational productivity and resource utilisation.
- Monitor operational costs, contract performance and profitability.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, margins and commercial performance.
- Support accurate financial reporting and invoicing processes.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, motivate and develop operational managers, supervisors and delivery teams.
- Conduct performance reviews and establish clear objectives.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and employee retention initiatives.
