Glendale is a market leader in grounds maintenance, arboriculture, and landscaping. We are looking for a reliable and self-motivated Machine Operator to support the delivery of grounds maintenance works across contracts in Somerset and Dorset.
This role is suited to someone who takes pride in operating machinery properly, understands site responsibility, and can lead themselves, and their team of two, to deliver work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
The Opportunity
As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating a range of grounds maintenance machinery across multiple sites. You will work either independently or with a small team (typically up to two operatives), planning your day, managing productivity, and ensuring all allocated sites are completed to programme. The role involves the use of ride-on and tractor-mounted equipment, towing trailers and machinery, and supporting both summer and winter works. You will be expected to work to understand the capabilities and limitations of the machinery you operate and take responsibility for its condition and safe use.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate grounds maintenance machinery safely and efficiently
- Use ride-on and tractor-mounted mowers in line with site specifications
- Tow trailers and equipment (or work towards towing competence)
- Plan daily workloads and complete all allocated sites
- Motivate and coordinate a small team (up to two operatives)
- Carry out daily checks, basic maintenance, and cleaning of machinery
- Identify defects and report issues promptly
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and presentation
- Work flexibly to support business and seasonal requirements
The Person
- Has experience operating grounds maintenance machinery, or is keen to develop these skills
- Has towing experience, or is willing to work towards it
- Has a good understanding of ride-on and tractor-mounted equipment
- Understands machine capabilities, limitations, and safe operation
- Is self-motivated, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Can positively lead and motivate a small team
- Takes pride in maintaining equipment and delivering work
- Communicates clearly with supervisors and colleagues
A full UK driving license is essential. Relevant machinery qualifications or tickets are desirable but not essential; training can be provided.
