The Role
The main purpose of this role is to provide an effective grounds maintenance service. The Machine Driver should have an understanding of garden maintenance and familiarity with machinery used for grounds work. Experience with a variety of grounds maintenance machinery, including rotary and cylinder ride-on mowers, strimmers, and hedge trimmers, is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain areas through cutting, collecting, and dropping using ride-on and pedestrian machinery.
- Perform horticultural operations such as hedge trimming, shrub bed maintenance, planting, strimming, blowing, hard surface maintenance, tree work, chemical application, garden clearance, and landscape works.
- Remove litter, empty bins, and clear leaves.
- Carry out Groundsman duties adhering to best practices.
- Supervise and instruct lower graded staff, fostering teamwork.
- Engage in craft skills like site preparation and construction.
- Operate ride-on and pedestrian mowers.
- Use tools and equipment, including power tools and light plant.
- Drive company vehicles and tow trailers as needed.
- Assist the supervisor with contract requirements and paperwork, especially in their absence.
- Ensure work is completed to quality standards and within deadlines.
- Promote pride and professionalism within the team.
- Support apprentices and fixed-term staff, communicating effectively with supervisors and management.
- Maintain discipline and wear appropriate PPE and uniform.
- Accurately input site visit data into Glendale Live 2.0 system.
- Follow health and safety procedures during operations.
- Be aware of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards and adhere to them.
- Build good relationships with colleagues, clients, and customers.
- Follow vehicle and equipment safety instructions, report damages, and ensure machinery is well-maintained and secured.
Machine Maintenance & Security
- Understand machinery suitability and safety for tasks.
- Use machinery according to manuals.
- Report defects immediately and complete maintenance sheets.
- Secure machinery when not in use.
Quality & Customer Care
- Be aware of daily tasks and standards.
- Maintain high work output and quality.
- Conduct oneself politely and professionally.
- Complete and submit administrative tasks timely.

Qualifications
- Experience operating ride-on mowers and towing trailers is essential.
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance and horticulture is desirable; training can be provided.
- Experience with handheld machinery is desirable; full training will be given.
