Our client is known as a market leader in the quality sector of the catering industry. They provide high-quality ambient, chilled, fresh, and frozen produce from around the world and supply some of the most prestigious chefs in the country. At present, most of their customers are London-based; however, they have already begun the expansion process into other major UK cities such as Manchester and Bristol.
As a result of their continued success, our client is looking to strengthen their Transport Team and requires a Transport Supervisor. The Transport Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the correct quantities of products are delivered to their prestigious clientele. All products must be delivered to the required location within the given time limit, and as a result, the Transport Supervisor must effectively organise and maintain the fleet while supervising drivers and ensuring they are compliant with company rules. Flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile to support the business are key requirements for this role. Experience in FMCG, ideally from a food company, especially in fleet and stock management, is highly desirable.
Tasks Include:
- Transport personnel management, monitoring driver progress and being their first point of contact for all drivers relating to vehicle needs.
- Ensure that all drivers have the necessary tools, paperwork and goods to carry out their roles and make deliveries.
- Ensure that all drivers are in full and proper uniform β any non-conformities must be handled efficiently.
- Build relationships with the wider business departments, as well as customer relationships, managing questions and complaints calmly and decisively.
- Ensure all equipment is allocated to the correct person in the correct vehicle.
- Organising and overseeing all health and safety checks and routine vehicle checks, adhering to both company and statutory requirements.
- Providing a full daily handover to the AM/PM Transport Supervisor and Transport Manager.
- Auditing all equipment daily, ensuring all items come back every day.
- Daily vehicle checks to be done as vehicles arrive.
- Be involved in strategic development and the maintenance of any administrative records.
- Be aware of all transport legislation and procedures to ensure company compliance.
- During busy periods, assist the transport supervisors with loading/unloading vehicles, making deliveries, answering calls, assisting driversβ needs, and booking in/out drivers at the end of a shift.
- Keep yard and bay areas tidy and safe.
- Suggest improvements to reduce turnaround time and improve safety and efficiency.
Required Attributes:
- Robust knowledge and understanding of all areas of the supply chain, budgets and financial controls, legislation and relevant fleet controls.
- Ability to efficiently work within a high-volume transport operation.
- Strong communication and people management skills, being able to cultivate strong business relationships on multiple levels.
- A sound understanding of basic numeracy is required for this position.
- Safety conscious with a full knowledge of transport operations and maintenance.
- Must hold a UK Driving License, no more than 6 points and be confident driving a 3.5 / 7.5 / 12 tonne vehicle.
- Good attention to detail, whilst being able to cope with the demands of a fast-paced and changing business.
- Effective team player, as well as having the ability to work on one's own initiative.
- Good practical knowledge of all Microsoft Office packages, including Excel, Word and ERP Data systems.
- Ability to multitask and manage the department in the absence of a Senior Manager.
- Flexibility to work weekends and Bank Holidays to support the business.
The hours are 11 pm β 8 am β 6 days per week from Sunday to Friday. Salary Β£45-Β£55K dependant on experience. A full UK Driving License is essential.
