Paramedic 24 Hours per WeekWe are looking for a dedicated paramedic to join our team for approximately 24 hours weekly.

Ideal Working Pattern:

  • Thursday:12.00pm 8:00 pm

Some flexibility can be considered.

The post-holder is a Paramedic who acts within their professional boundaries.

Paramedics work independently within their scope of practice in the community, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to assess and manage patients presenting with acute presentations which include but are not limited to minor illness or injury, abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches.

The post-holder will be an integral part of the Parkside Group Practice team.

The supervision and mentorship network will be provided to support the Paramedic.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the Paramedic delivering health services.

a. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) within the organisation

b. Assess and triage patients, including same day triage, and as appropriate provided definitive treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE (national) and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or make necessary referrals to other members of the primary care team

c. Advise patients on general healthcare and promote self-management where appropriate, including signposting patients to the social prescribing service and, where appropriate, other community or voluntary services

d. Paramedics work independently within their scope of practice in the community, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to assess and manage patients presenting with acute presentations which include minor illness or injury, abdominal pains, chest pains and headaches

e. Be able to perform specialist health checks and reviews within their scope of practice and in line with local and national guidance, perform and interpret ECGs, perform investigatory procedures as required and undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs and other samples within their scope of practice and within line of local and national guidance

About us

Parkside Group Practice is based in South Croydon, with a list size of 14,500 patients. The team consists of 4 partners, 7 salaried GPs, 2 Pharmacists, 1 Pharmacy technician, 1 Social Prescriber, 3 nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants and a administration team of 18 including a Business Manager and 2 Operations managers.

Job responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Paramedic has the following but not limited to wider responsibilities

a. Support the delivery of QOF, incentive schemes, QIPP and other quality or cost effectiveness initiatives

b. Deliver training, mentoring and guidance to other clinicians and staff on medical emergencies

c. Support virtual and remote models of consultation and support, including e-consultations

d. Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner

Person Specification

Experience

  • Completed their two-year Consolidation of Learning period when a newly qualified paramedic.
  • Completed a further three years experience as a band 6 (or equivalent) paramedic.
  • Attained Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice.
  • An appreciation of the new NHS landscape, including the relationships between individual practices, PCNs and the commissioners.
  • Experience of working autonomously.
  • Experience of working in a GP Practice.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in paramedicine or equivalent experience.
  • Working towards developing Level 7 capability in paramedic areas of practice and, within six months of the commencement of reimbursement for that individual (or a longer time period as agreed with the commissioner).
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Paramedic.
  • Is working towards developing Masters level or equivalent capability in paramedic areas of practice and has completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the NHS E Paramedic FCP/AP Roadmap to practice.
  • Completed and been signed off formally within the clinical pillar competencies of the Advanced Clinical Practice Framework.
