Grounds Maintenance Machine Driver Westbury, Wiltshire

Glendale has recently been awarded new grounds maintenance contracts in Wiltshire. The contracts involve grass cutting, litter bin emptying, and street cleansing, operated from the Melksham depot.

The main purpose of this role is to provide effective grounds maintenance services. The Machine Driver should understand garden maintenance and operate machinery such as rotary and cylinder ride-on mowers, strimmers, and hedge trimmers.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Maintaining areas using ride-on and pedestrian machinery for cutting, collecting, and dropping grass.
2. Undertaking horticultural tasks: hedge trimming, shrub maintenance, planting, strimming, blowing, hard surface and tree maintenance, chemical application, and general landscape works.
3. Removing litter, emptying bins, and clearing leaves.
4. Carrying out Groundsman duties following best practices.
5. Leading and instructing lower graded staff and working as a team.
6. Utilizing craft skills for site preparation and construction.
7. Operating ride-on and pedestrian mowers.
8. Using tools and equipment, including power tools and light plant.
9. Driving company vehicles and towing trailers as needed.
10. Supporting the supervisor in contract requirements and reporting in their absence.
11. Completing paperwork and ensuring work is done within deadlines and standards.
12. Promoting a professional attitude and team pride.
13. Assisting apprentices and communicating with the team.
14. Following health and safety procedures and wearing PPE.
15. Inputting site visit data into the Glendale Live 2.0 system.
16. Ensuring machinery and tools are maintained and used safely.
17. Monitoring vehicle and equipment conditions and reporting damages.
18. Adhering to health and safety laws and company policies.
19. Ensuring equipment is fit for purpose and secured when not in use.
20. Promoting safe working practices and environmental responsibility in line with ISO standards.
21. Reporting machinery defects and completing maintenance checks.
22. Maintaining quality and customer care standards.

Qualifications required:

• Experience operating ride-on mowers and towing trailers.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance and horticulture preferred; training provided.
• Experience with handheld machinery is desirable; full training given.
• Must hold a full, clean UK driving license.

Personal qualities:

• Reliable, conscientious, and eager to learn.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in grounds maintenance and horticulture is advantageous.
