Are you a compassionate, patient-centred family doctor looking for an exciting new role within a supportive and progressive GP practice? Parklane Surgery, based in the welcoming community of Tonyrefail (Porth, Mid Glamorgan), is seeking a Salaried GP to join our friendly and experienced team.

Main duties of the job

Your Role

You’ll manage a varied caseload across 6 sessions per week, delivering outstanding care to our patients. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Surgery and telephone consultations
  • Home visits (where needed)
  • Acute and repeat prescriptions
  • Preventative health screening and health education
  • Managing undiagnosed and chronic conditions
  • Creating individualised care plans
  • Participating in audits, QOF, and quality improvement
  • Supporting trainee GPs and healthcare staff
  • Contributing to the success of our Primary Care Network (PCN)

You’ll work with autonomy, but always with the support of a highly collaborative team.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Participating actively in the collection of data for audit purposes.
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Providing support for other clinicians such as nurses and health care assistants.
  • Working collaboratively within the Primary Care Network.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines.
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies.
  • Maintaining an interest in the practice programme for training and education.

Person Specification

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the GP Register.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing patient centred care and maintaining high professional standards.
  • Experience of Vision.
