Parkinson Lee Executive Search are the retained partners to a growing group of companies within the construction industry in the appointment of a Group Operations & Compliance Director. This business has been through significant organic growth over the past 6 years and is now recognised as a major brand within their field.

This is a rare and prestigious opportunity for a seasoned executive to join the executive leadership team of an ambitious business, bringing together operational compliance, governance and control and corporate leadership of several of the groups back office support functions. The appointed candidate will play a critical role in shaping and delivering the strategic and commercial future of the business and function as a business partner to the Group CEO and Executive Board.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the Board, the Group Operations & Compliance Director will assume full responsibility for the operational performance of the business, alongside corporate governance, legal oversight, and risk management. This appointment demands an experienced, commercially astute executive that holds a legal qualification and has a proven track record of transformation, legal and regulatory leadership, and cross-functional management at Board level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across core business functions including operations, finance, risk, and compliance
  • Strengthen the company’s governance frameworks, ensuring best practice in internal controls, policy development, and board-level reporting
  • Lead on legal and regulatory matters, including contractual governance, commercial compliance, and Company Secretarial duties
  • Drive operational excellence and rigour throughout the group’s support functions, providing mentorship to business unit managers
  • Deliver operational excellence through process improvement, financial discipline, and performance management
  • Act as a key conduit between executive management and external stakeholders, including legal advisers, auditors, investors, and regulatory bodies
  • Mentor and develop leadership teams, fostering a culture of accountability, high performance, and ethical leadership

Candidate Profile

  • Legally qualified background (or Qualified Chartered Accountant) with a strong foundation in operational leadership, and proven experience of working within contract management and financial framework remits at senior level
  • Substantial experience working within dynamic, evolving organisations—ideally including group structures
  • Strong governance and legal acumen, with direct experience in risk, compliance, and corporate legal responsibilities
  • Demonstrated success in driving performance improvement, operational change, and sustainable growth
  • Confident Board presence with excellent communication skills and commercial gravitas
  • Experience across sectors such as construction, facilities management, outsourcing, or business services would be advantageous
