Parkinson Lee Executive Search are retained partners to a leading Construction Group in the appointment of a Director of Risk & Governance.
Our client has experienced significant organic growth over the last 5 years and is approaching £100M turnover. As they prepare themselves for the next phase of growth and development, there is a requirement to appoint a Director of Risk & Governance, who will play a critical role in safeguarding and supporting this continued growth, ensuring that as the Group scales, its governance, risk management and compliance frameworks remain strong, agile and fit for the future.
The Role
As Director of Risk & Governance, you will act as the principal advisor to the Board and senior leadership on corporate governance, risk management and legal compliance. You will design and embed best-in-class governance frameworks, ensure the Group meets its legal and regulatory obligations, and oversee the company secretarial function. This highly visible role also provides oversight of HR, Health & Safety, IT and ESG functions, ensuring we operate with transparency, accountability and a strong ethical culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as trusted advisor to the Board on governance, compliance and risk
- Develop and implement the Group’s governance framework in line with the UK Corporate Governance Code and evolving best practice
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls, risk management processes and reporting structures
- Lead the review of governance policies
- Oversee statutory compliance, regulatory filings, and the management of commercial legal matters
- Act as Group Company Secretary, ensuring full compliance with legislative requirements
- Provide oversight of HR, Health & Safety, IT and ESG functions, ensuring risk-aware, efficient operations
- Promote a culture of integrity, accountability and proactive risk awareness across the organisation
Parkinson Lee Executive Search are looking for a leader with:
- Proven experience in governance, risk management or legal compliance at executive or senior management level
- A recognised legal or financial qualification (e.g. solicitor, barrister, chartered accountant)
- Strong leadership, with a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams
- Demonstrable experience advising at Board level and shaping corporate governance frameworks
- Exceptional stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills
- Deep understanding of commercial, corporate and legal processes in a complex, multi-entity environment
