This role will suit an experienced Mechanical Designer who enjoys technically challenging projects and wants to work in an environment where engineering quality is prioritised over volume production. You will be involved in the design and coordination of mechanical building services systems from concept through to detailed design and construction support. The position requires a strong technical understanding of HVAC and public health systems alongside the ability to coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary BIM-led project environments.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting senior engineers, mentoring junior technicians and ensuring the technical delivery of projects aligns with programme, specification and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities- Develop detailed mechanical building services designs for a range of complex construction projects across multiple sectors.
- Produce coordinated HVAC and public health layouts using Revit and AutoCAD within BIM Level 2 project environments.
- Prepare detailed mechanical design documentation including equipment schedules, schematics, technical specifications and coordinated services drawings.
- Undertake ventilation, heating and cooling load calculations alongside pipework and ductwork sizing using industry-recognised design software.
- Coordinate mechanical services integration with electrical, structural and architectural disciplines to ensure clash-free design delivery.
- Support the development of low-energy and decarbonisation-focused design strategies including heat pump systems, heat recovery technologies and energy-efficient HVAC solutions.
- Participate in technical design reviews, project meetings and client coordination workshops.
- Conduct site surveys, inspections and construction-stage support activities to ensure installation quality and compliance with design intent.
- Assist with mentoring junior designers and technicians within the mechanical team.
- Maintain awareness of current industry regulations, British Standards, CIBSE guidance and emerging technologies within the building services sector.
- Demonstrable experience within a Mechanical Design or Building Services Design position.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, ventilation strategies and mechanical services coordination.
- Experience working within UK based consultancy or contractor design environments.
- Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and project requirements independently.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to technically complex or large-scale projects would be highly beneficial.
- HNC/HND or Degree qualification within Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
