As the business continues to grow organically year on year, now approaching the Β£100m turnover mark and showing no signs of plateauing, the preconstruction team aims to deliver as much in-house design as possible. A number of new appointments have been made this year across design and design management, with the recruitment of an Intermediate level Electrical Building Services Design Engineer the final piece of the jigsaw to set up what is expected to be a record breaking 2026.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality electrical building services designs from concept through to detailed design, supporting project delivery across a variety of sectors. You will work closely with internal teams, clients, architects, and contractors to develop efficient, compliant, and innovative electrical engineering solutions that promote energy efficiency and low carbon design.
Key Responsibilities:- Produce electrical building services designs, calculations, and drawings, including: power distribution, lighting and emergency lighting, fire alarms and life safety systems, containment and cable management, data, security, and specialist systems.
- Develop concept, schematic, and detailed designs in line with industry standards and client requirements.
- Prepare technical specifications, schedules, and reports.
- Carry out site surveys, inspections, and design validation.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical and public health engineering disciplines.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., BS7671, CIBSE guides, Building Regulations).
- Liaise directly with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Support project managers and senior engineers in delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Contribute to sustainable and low-carbon design initiatives.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and value-engineering exercises.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in electrical design within building services.
- Strong knowledge of UK design standards, regulations, and industry codes of practice.
- Proficiency in design software such as: AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech/Trimble, Dialux/Relux.
- Ability to produce accurate technical documentation and reports.
- Good understanding of renewable technologies and modern energy-efficient solutions.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage workload and meet project deadlines.
- Membership or working toward membership of a relevant professional body (IET, CIBSE).
- Experience working for an MEP consultancy or contractor.
- Knowledge of BIM Level 2 workflows.
- Experience with design-and-build projects.
