Are you ready to move beyond simply delivering environmental assessments?

Do you want to influence sustainable design from the earliest project stages while working alongside some of the industry's leading engineers and sustainability specialists?

We're recruiting for a Senior Sustainability Consultant to join an established consultancy that has sustainability embedded throughout its business.

This is an opportunity to become a trusted adviser on major developments, helping clients deliver buildings that are not only compliant but genuinely perform better for people and the environment.

Rather than working in a team focused solely on certification, you'll collaborate with specialists across building services, energy, net zero carbon, building performance and wellbeing to deliver integrated sustainability solutions.

Career Development

This position offers genuine scope for progression.

As the sustainability team continues to grow, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical expertise, mentor developing consultants and play an active role in shaping future service delivery.

If you're looking for a role where your opinion is valued and your career can develop beyond project delivery alone, this could be an excellent next step.

Purpose of the Role

You'll lead the delivery of sustainability and environmental certification projects across a diverse portfolio of developments, acting as the principal point of contact for clients while working closely with multidisciplinary design teams.

The role combines technical delivery with client consultancy, giving you the opportunity to influence sustainable outcomes throughout the design and construction process rather than simply assessing completed schemes.

Alongside managing your own projects, you'll support the development of junior colleagues, contribute to technical best practice and help identify opportunities to enhance the consultancy's sustainability offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing BREEAM and WELL certification projects from early design through to final certification.
  • Providing sustainability advice to clients, architects and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Coordinating environmental assessment activities across multiple live projects.
  • Building long-term relationships with clients through high-quality technical advice.
  • Reviewing technical submissions and maintaining quality across project delivery.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior consultants as the team continues to expand.
  • Contributing to new service development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working alongside specialists delivering net zero carbon, wellbeing and wider sustainability consultancy services.

You'll enjoy a varied workload across multiple sectors, with projects ranging from complex new developments to major refurbishments, providing excellent technical variety and long-term career development.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with annual bonus.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Employee-owned business with a collaborative culture.
  • Excellent opportunities for career progression.
  • Ongoing investment in technical training and professional development.
  • Professional membership fees paid.
  • Generous annual leave allowance.
  • Enhanced pension and family-friendly benefits.
  • Opportunity to work on landmark sustainable developments across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, building client relationships and helping shape the future of sustainable building design.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • At least six years' experience delivering sustainability consultancy services within the UK built environment.
  • Qualified BREEAM Assessor.
  • WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP).
  • Demonstrable experience delivering environmental certification across a range of project types.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously.
  • Ability to coordinate sustainability input across multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable building design and the UK construction process.

Desirable Experience

Experience in additional areas would be beneficial, including BREEAM Advisory Professional status, Chartered Environmentalist accreditation, Fitwel, LEED, HQM, Net Zero Carbon strategies, Whole Life Carbon assessments, Circular Economy strategies, ESG consultancy, sustainability frameworks, bid preparation or workshop facilitation.

If you're looking for a role where you'll influence projects, work alongside recognised technical experts and continue developing your career within one of the UK's most respected engineering consultancies, we'd be pleased to hear from you.

Please note: Applicants must have an existing and unrestricted right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for this position
