An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Yorkshire branch of a major national MEP contractor as a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager.

With an enviable reputation for delivering complex mechanical and electrical building services projects across the UK, our client continues to invest heavily in its Yorkshire operation and has secured an impressive pipeline of work across commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and public sector developments.

This role offers the opportunity to become a key member of the regional senior management team, taking responsibility for the commercial performance of multiple projects while helping to shape the continued growth of the Yorkshire business.

The Role

Working closely with the Regional Director, Contracts Managers and Project Teams, you’ll oversee the commercial management of projects from award through to final account.

Responsibilities will include

  • Managing the commercial performance of multiple MEP projects across Yorkshire.
  • Preparing, reviewing and negotiating subcontract packages.
  • Valuations, applications for payment and cash flow management.
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and margin control.
  • Managing variations, compensation events and contractual change.
  • Negotiating final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risk.
  • Supporting Project Managers with commercial advice throughout project delivery.
  • Mentoring and developing junior commercial staff within the regional team.
  • Working closely with operational management to maximise project profitability.

About You

You’ll ideally possess

  • Experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager within the building services or MEP contracting sector.
  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract, including JCT and NEC.
  • A proven track record managing the commercial aspects of mechanical and electrical projects.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness combined with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • The ability to manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A stable employment history demonstrating progression and successful project delivery.
