The Leeds office is looking to appoint a Junior Mechanical Engineer who will support the HVAC engineering team in the design, development and delivery of building services projects. The appointed candidate will contribute to the creation of mechanical systems designs (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and assist Senior Engineers across project stages from concept through to handover, learning and developing core skills within a professional consultancy environment.
This role is ideal for a recent engineering graduate, early‑career professional, or someone with limited industry experience looking to establish a long‑term career in mechanical building services engineering.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the mechanical design of building services, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing systems.
- Prepare and develop drawings, schematics, calculations, and technical documentation under supervision.
- Support Senior Engineers with design development and coordination across disciplines.
- Contribute to mechanical performance specifications and equipment schedules.
- Assist with design checks, QA processes, and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
- Participate in project meetings, liaising with the team and clients as required.
- Learn in-house design systems and tools, including CAD and BIM workflows.
- Engage in CPD and training activities to build technical knowledge and competencies.
- Support sustainability and low‑carbon design objectives in mechanical engineering solutions.
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent); or HNC/HND with relevant experience.
- A desire to work towards professional membership (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE).
- Basic understanding of mechanical building services principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, IES or similar) is desirable.
- Awareness of British Standards, Building Regulations and sustainability frameworks (e.g., BREEAM or low‑carbon design principles) is beneficial.
- Strong willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
