About The Role
Parkhaven Trust is recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Maintenance and Service team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the grounds across the Parkhaven estate to a high standard throughout the year. You will play a key part in ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our service users, visitors, and staff, always promoting dignity and respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general grounds maintenance duties including lawn care, pruning, planting, and maintaining flower beds.
- Sweep paths and remove litter, leaves, and debris to maintain high standards across the estate.
- Undertake seasonal duties such as leaf clearance and gritting of paths and roads.
- Maintain and erect fencing as required.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify, report, and resolve defects or damage.
- Safely operate a range of machinery including mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment (in line with training).
- Use hand tools and power tools appropriately and safely.
- Assist with minor repairs to tools and equipment where required.
- Support and assist in the training of apprentices and new staff.
- Work in line with Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH, PPE and PUWER.
- Ensure personal safety and the safety of others, including service users and members of the public.
- Work flexibly as part of the Maintenance and Service team.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
About You
We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual with a strong work ethic and a passion for maintaining outdoor environments.
You Will
- Have at least 3 years’ experience in grounds maintenance or a similar role.
- Hold a qualification in horticulture or grounds maintenance (desirable).
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
- Have relevant machinery certificates (e.g. chainsaw use).
- Be competent in the safe use of grounds maintenance equipment.
- Have a good understanding of health and safety practices.
- Possess basic horticultural knowledge, including plant care and maintenance.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Have strong organisational and planning skills.
- Be reliable, punctual, and flexible in your approach to work.
- Have good communication skills and a professional attitude.
- Be physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
