University Arms is a 192‑bedroom design‑led Hotel situated in the heart of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Overlooking Parker’s Piece is the Hotel’s quintessentially British Restaurant and Bar Parker’s Tavern, Library Lounge, and beautiful 272 square metre wood panelled Ballroom. Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. It is now Cambridge's 'go to’ destination, alluring visitors with the promise of a sense of modern luxury.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING

As a Kitchen Porter, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, ensuring the kitchens are organised, and supporting chefs with basic tasks. This is a vital role that helps keep the service running efficiently every day.

THE DUTIES

  • Wash and clean all kitchen equipment, utensils, and crockery
  • Ensure the Team Member Buttery is clean and stocked
  • Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen areas, storerooms, and back‑of‑house spaces
  • Operate dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assist chefs with basic food prep tasks when required
  • Remove waste and recycling, ensuring correct disposal
  • Keep storage areas organised and assist with deliveries
  • Follow health, hygiene, and safety standards at all times
  • Support the wider kitchen team during busy service periods
  • Manual handling or lifting may be required, and the work is physically demanding

  • Have a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Are reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast‑paced environment

  • Are physically able to undertake a hands‑on, active role
  • Can work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Have previous kitchen porter or kitchen experience (preferred but not essential)
