I am looking for a Temporary Works Design Engineer / Structural Engineer for one of my clients who are a leading concrete frame subcontractor specialising in delivering high-quality, innovative construction projects in the UK. The Role
This role exists for a highly skilled and experienced Temporary Works Design Engineer/ Structural Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in temporary works/structural design, with at least 5+ years of experience across various types of temporary works design including demolition, cut and carve structures. The ideal candidate will be working towards chartered status (e.g., ICE, IStructE) and will be proficient in structural analysis to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective temporary works designs.
As a Temporary Works Design Engineer, you will design, analyse, and deliver temporary works solutions for major construction projects, ensuring that all designs comply with the highest safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide design output and methodology for the construction and removal of Temporary Works as requested by various project sites.
- Liaise as necessary with the site Temporary Works Coordinator to ensure the design brief is fully understood, so that the design process from preliminary to construction issue is carried out efficiently and correctly reflects the site needs.
- From time to time this will involve site visits to discuss the methodology with the site team.
- Occasionally visit the site to carry out a supplementary inspection of the temporary works prior to loading, if requested by the site team for complex or unusual temporary works.
- Liaise with client engineers, consultants and suppliers, as necessary to deal with issues relating to the temporary works.
- Provide support to the Head Office tendering team as and when requested by providing presentation drawings for inclusion in the bid documents.
- Produce designs in compliance with the temporary works procedure from receipt of the design brief to construction issue of the drawings in a timely manner.
- Comply with relevant current design codes, standard practices, CDM and health and safety requirements including identifying residual risk in the preparation of temporary works designs.
- Utilise available stock equipment and materials in temporary works designs wherever possible.
- Maintain good housekeeping by recording and filing all design work in the temporary works department design management system, keeping hard copies where appropriate, and keeping drawing registers up to date.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or related field.
- Chartered desired but not essential.
- Proven experience in a similar role within the construction industry with 5+ years experience including Structural analysis, falsework, formwork, shoring, demolition, cut and carve structures, geotechnical.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction methodology and design principles relating to temporary works and the temporary loading of permanent works.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Thorough understanding of Health and Safety regulations with the ability to manage and mitigate risk.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- Computer literacy and ability to use AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla Tedds, Excel, CADS geotechnical and FEM Analysis.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 3+ years of work experience with FEM analysis.
- Authorized to work in United Kingdom.
- 2+ years of work experience with Revit.
