We are currently working with a leading engineering organisation operating within the industrial refrigeration sector, delivering large-scale refrigeration and process cooling systems across the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Industrial Refrigeration Service Engineer to support service, maintenance and reactive works across a range of heavy commercial refrigeration plant systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong industrial refrigeration experience, or a supermarket refrigeration background looking to progress into large-scale ammonia-based systems and process cooling environments.
Duties and Responsibilities- Service and maintain heavy commercial and industrial refrigeration plant systems
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown works
- Work on ammonia (NH₃), chilled water and refrigeration plant equipment
- Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, refrigeration and basic electrical systems
- Attend site to troubleshoot plant issues and minimise downtime
- Support with system improvements, modifications and optimisation works
- Carry out pressure testing and fault diagnosis activities
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and site documentation
- Ensure all works are completed in line with Health & Safety and company procedures
- Maintain high standards of workmanship across live industrial environments
- Provide technical support to apprentices and customers where required
- Conduct site audits and accurately record service activity
- Communicate professionally with clients, site teams and management
- Valid F-Gas Certification essential
- Ammonia Safe Handling qualification preferred
- IPAF certification preferred
- CO₂ / Hydrocarbon qualifications beneficial
- Full UK Driving Licence
Key capabilities required for this role include:
- Previous experience as an Industrial Refrigeration Engineer or Refrigeration Service Engineer
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration plant systems and chilled water equipment
- Experience working on ammonia systems highly desirable
- Supermarket or retail refrigeration engineers looking to step into industrial refrigeration will be considered
- Strong mechanical fault-finding ability with basic electrical understanding
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings and schematics
- Experience with brazing and refrigeration pipework advantageous
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Professional, reliable and safety-focused approach to work
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a refrigeration service environment
- Proven background in industrial or supermarket refrigeration
- Experience working on large-scale refrigeration plant systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair refrigeration and mechanical faults independently
- Experience working in live operational environments
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a field service team
