Parker Meggitt, Stevenage are responsible for the design and development of high-performance military and civil radomes for fast jet, rotary wing and naval platforms, using fibre reinforced thermo-setting and thermoplastics. Reporting to the Test Team Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the Test Laboratory and the execution of mechanical testing of composite materials in accordance with national and international Test Specifications. The testing supports Product Acceptance evaluation for the Quality and Operations Departments and material characterisation activities for the Engineering Department. The role therefore requires excellent verbal and written communication as well as good planning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Cut and prepare test specimens to relevant test specifications and standards.
  • Perform mechanical testing to the relevant test specifications and standards.
  • Execute thermal analysis using DMA/DSC equipment. Training will be given where required.
  • Do material re-life and maintain re-life database.
  • Perform goods-in testing and produce reports for stores.
  • Produce detailed reports/NCR’s of test results.
  • Operation of the Zwick Universal Test Machine.
  • Ensure all Test lab equipment is maintained and in calibration.
  • Responsible for Health and Safety within the Testlab.
  • Supervise and train apprentices and staff when working in the Test lab.
  • Proactively seek to improve the Testlab’s working practices and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Experience working in a test laboratory environment and preferably with composite testing with a familiarisation of applicable testing standards such as ASTM, ISO, CRAG etc is essential.
  • A knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is important to enable accurate and concise reporting/recording of test results to the relevant departments.
  • Able to work independently and flexibly with a general good understanding of projects and manage the priorities of the varied workload in line with these.
  • Participation in company MRBs and Quality led Root cause investigations will also be required.
  • Training will be given where required and opportunities exist to further develop into NDT inspection (ultra-sonic A-scan and C-scan) and RF testing for the successful candidate.
