Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Setting and operating Citizen sliding head and grinding machines, focusing on maximizing safety, quality, and output efficiency.
  • Performing first-off inspections, maintaining strict in-process quality control, and ensuring accurate production data documentation.
  • Ensuring that any health and safety guidelines are followed in accordance with the EHS organisational arrangements roles and responsibilities, including maintaining (and improving where possible) 5S standards and ensuring the correct PPE is worn.
  • Following works orders (routing) instructions.
  • Interpreting technical drawings.
  • Selecting and loading CNC programs.
  • Maintaining general tidiness and good housekeeping.
  • Undertaking full machine setups, including selecting and installing cutting tools, work holding (chucks, fixtures, jaws), and setting datums using probing or dial indicators.
  • Completing works orders in accordance with the Kanban system, ensuring any issues (e.g. material availability, quality issues, etc.) are reported immediately to the line manager.
  • Undertaking in-cycle deburring.
  • Supervising machines during operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusting offsets or tool speeds to optimise performance, recording output and scrap accurately.
  • Performing "first-off" component approvals and continuous in-process inspections using precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and verniers to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.
  • Ensuring tooling sheets and programs are kept up to date.
  • Identifying alternative tooling solutions and raising ideas with the cell leader.
  • Involvement in the High Performing Team (HPT).
  • Ensuring that the appropriate TPM is undertaken – routine maintenance.

Who we are looking for:

  • General PC skills.
  • Experience in setting and operating multi-axis CNC machines, with a specific focus on sliding head lathes and CNC Grinders.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and edit G-code (ideally Fanuc) to make necessary offset and program adjustments.
  • Flexibility to support other departments as required.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, shadow graphs) to inspect parts against tight tolerances.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to logically diagnose production issues.
  • Responding effectively to changes in the production schedule or switching between machine types (lathes to grinders) with minimal disruption.
