Senior Engineer in Chesterfield

About the role As a Senior Engineer , you will sit at the sharp end of what we do. Reporting to the Managing Director and Operations Director, your focus will be on advanced electronic repair, technical problem solving, and supporting the continued development of our workshop and repair capability. We are currently 9 months into an 18 month Innovate UK funded R&D project, which is pushing us to formalise repair methods, improve repeatability, and develop new ways of repairing complex truck components. You will play an important part in that work, bringing real world engineering experience into a structured R&D environment. This is a hands on role in a growing business. You will have influence, responsibility, and the space to help define better ways of working. Key responsibilities Repair complex and high value electronic components, including ECUs and control units Carry out detailed diagnostics, fault finding, component level repair, and testing Use and help develop processes around our BGA rework station for safe removal and replacement of complex chips on circuit boards Contribute directly to our Innovate UK R&D project through testing, documentation, and refinement of repair processes Support continuous improvement within the workshop, including tooling, equipment, and repair standards Work closely with management to review repair outcomes, success rates, and technical challenges Share knowledge and support the technical development of other engineers as the team grows Provide technical input into future R&D and innovation projects What we’re looking for Strong hands on experience in automotive electronics or electrical repair Solid understanding of ECU repair and component level electronics Experience with BGA rework equipment, or demonstrable experience working at a similar technical level A problem solver who enjoys complex faults rather than routine work Comfortable working in a business that is still evolving its systems and processes Willing to challenge “how it’s always been done” and help define better approaches Clear communicator who can contribute to documentation and structured technical work Why this role is different This is not a large corporate repair operation with fixed roles and rigid processes.
