I'm currently recruiting for a Housing Repairs Officer to join a busy Local Authority housing team in Surrey on an initial 4-5 month contract. This is a hands-on operational role supporting the delivery of the Council's responsive repairs service, working closely with internal teams and external contractors to ensure repairs are progressed, issues are resolved and residents receive an effective service.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Acting as a first point of contact for responsive repair enquiries
- Liaising closely with the Council's repairs contractor and chasing outstanding works and orders
- Managing shared repairs inboxes and responding to requests from staff, contractors and residents
- Handling calls relating specifically to responsive repairs and ongoing works
- Managing Stage 1 repairs complaints from end to end, including investigation and written responses
- Supporting contractor meetings, taking minutes and following up agreed actions
- Monitoring contractor performance and supporting the management of repairs KPIs
- Reviewing and authorising appropriate contractor quotes
- Providing operational cover across the repairs service when required
- Reviewing repairs information and analysing data to identify outstanding works, trends and performance issues
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience working within housing repairs, property services or a responsive repairs environment
- Experience liaising with contractors and monitoring outstanding works
- A good understanding of repairs processes within social housing or a Local Authority
- Experience managing complaints, ideally including Stage 1 responses
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and inboxes
- Confidence working with repairs data, KPIs and contractor performance information
This role would suit someone who understands the operational side of a busy repairs service and is comfortable coordinating contractors, progressing works and taking ownership of issues through to resolution. Interviews are taking place next week, with a view to starting on 31 August. If you're interested or know somebody with relevant housing repairs experience, please get in touch to discuss the role further.
