A District Council in the North Home Counties has an opportunity as their Head of Environmental Health to lead a key front line service at a time of significant organisational change, helping to shape Environmental Health in a District Council as Local Government Reorganisation progresses.
As the Interim Head of Environmental Health, you'll report to the Chief Exec in providing strategic leadership to a high-performing service that protects public health, supports businesses and helps create safer, healthier places for our communities.
You will lead and manage the Private Sector Housing and Licensing Teams, supporting service delivery through a period of increased demand following the introduction of Renter's Rights Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring high-quality delivery and continuous improvement.
- Supporting teams and driving positive change.
- Navigating change and transformation until Local Government Organisation is fully implemented in April 2028.
- Overseeing services including Food Safety, Environmental Protection, Private Sector Housing, Licensing, Health and Safety and Public Health functions.
- Ensuring statutory duties, regulatory responsibilities and professional standards are upheld and delivered.

- Significant senior leadership experience within Environmental Health.
- Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to make effective decisions in a complex environment.
- Experience navigating local authority governance, policies, and statutory responsibilities.
