A Council in Hertfordshire are looking for an experienced Food Safety Officer to join their team on a 6-month initial contract, paying Β£50 an hour.
This is a busy role with a strong focus on Food Safety, with approximately 50% of the inspection workload consisting of Category D premises, alongside unrated, new and other non-categorised food businesses. The role will involve inspections, investigations, enforcement, and managing a varied caseload while supporting the wider Environmental Health service.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct programmed and reactive food hygiene inspections, with approximately 50% of the workload focused on Category D premises.
- Inspect unrated, new and other non-categorised food premises.
- Investigate food complaints, food poisoning notifications, and other food safety matters.
- Undertake enforcement action, including notices and prosecutions where required.
- Assess food businesses in line with food safety legislation and the Food Law Code of Practice.
- Provide advice and guidance to food business operators.
- Prepare reports, notices, and legal documentation.
- Manage a varied caseload independently and ensure appropriate follow-up action.
- Support the wider Environmental Health service as required.
About you
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Recent experience working in a Local Authority.
- Strong practical experience in Food Safety and food hygiene enforcement.
- A recognised Environmental Health Degree/Qualification or relevant Food Safety qualification.
- Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and the Food Law Code of Practice.
- Experience carrying out food hygiene inspections across a range of premises.
- Experience delivering enforcement and regulatory action.
- Confidence managing a varied caseload independently.
- Experience preparing notices, reports, and legal documentation.
- Availability for an immediate start.
