A Council in Hertfordshire are looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to join their team on a 6-month initial contract, paying £50-£55 an hour. This is a varied role with a strong focus on Private Sector Housing, giving you the opportunity to lead on housing enforcement, licensing, and complex casework while supporting the wider service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct HHSRS inspections and investigate complaints.
- Lead housing enforcement, including notices, civil penalties, and prosecutions.
- Manage HMO Licensing applications, inspections, and compliance.
- Support the Council's wider Licensing schemes.
- Act as a consultee on planning and licensing applications.
- Mentor junior officers and provide technical guidance.
- Prepare reports, notices, and legal documentation.
- Support the wider service as required.
About you:
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience working in Local Government.
- Strong knowledge of Private Sector Housing, HHSRS, and the Housing Act 2004.
- A recognised Environmental Health Degree/Qualification.
- Experience delivering enforcement and regulatory action.
- A background in HMO Licensing and compliance inspections.
- Confidence managing complex casework independently alongside supporting/mentoring junior colleagues.
- Experience preparing notices, reports, and legal documentation.
