Interim Planning Enforcement Lead Officer | Sussex | Part Time

A Sussex-based Local Authority is seeking an experienced Interim Planning Enforcement Lead Officer to manage and support a well-established enforcement team on an initial 6-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior enforcement professional with previous management experience who can provide both operational leadership and technical expertise across a varied and often complex enforcement caseload.

The successful candidate will manage a team of four enforcement officers, undertaking regular one-to-one meetings, reviewing reports and draft enforcement notices, and ensuring all formal action is legally robust and defensible.

Alongside management responsibilities, you will take the lead on more significant and complex investigations, prepare and review appeal statements, oversee prosecution-related documentation, and respond to service complaints, FOI requests, and EIR enquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of four Planning Enforcement Officers
  • Conduct regular 1-2-1s and provide technical guidance to officers
  • Review reports, enforcement notices, and legal documentation
  • Prepare and review appeal statements and prosecution papers
  • Manage a caseload of complex and high-profile enforcement investigations
  • Attend Hearings, Public Inquiries, and Court proceedings where required

Contract Details:

  • Initial 6-month contract
  • Up to 26 hours per week
  • Hybrid arrangement with at least one day per week in the office
  • Inside IR35

This position would suit an experienced Planning Enforcement Manager or Principal Enforcement Officer looking for a flexible leadership role where they can make an immediate impact and support the development of an established team.
