Job Description
VAT Accountant, Permanent Position Location: Glasgow - Hybrid Working Salary: £41,000 - £51,970 + Excellent BenefitsHours: Full-Time (35 hours per week)
Are you an experienced VAT specialist with a passion for ensuring compliance, reducing risk, and supporting strategic financial goals? We are looking for a VAT Accountant to join our clients Treasury, Tax and Insurance (TTI) team within the Finance Directorate.
You will play a key role in driving VAT and indirect tax compliance across the Company
What You'll Do:
- Ensure full VAT compliance and manage indirect tax obligations across the Group.
- Act as in-house VAT Subject Matter Expert
- Provide advice, training, and support to internal teams and stakeholders.
- Conduct VAT audits and develop guidance materials to ensure best practice.
- Manage the VAT return process and submissions using Making Tax Digital
- Engage with HMRC on audits and queries.
- Support new business initiatives and system developments with VAT implications.
- Stay ahead of VAT legislation and integrate key changes into our processes.
- Contribute to shaping the Group's wider Tax Strategy
What We Are Looking For:
- Strong VAT knowledge with hands-on experience, ideally in a large corporate environment
- ATT, ACCA, or other relevant tax/accounting qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Excellent communication skills - able to explain complex tax matters in plain English.
- Proven ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Advanced Excel skills and solid experience with accounting software
- Desirable: Familiarity with AlphaVAT or other Making Tax Digital systems
- Bonus: Working knowledge of other indirect taxes
