Paritas is working with a rapidly growing Technology client focused on the trading and algorithmic optimisation of energy storage and renewable assets globally.
The UK Shift Trading Manager will join the UK Trading Team where you will play a critical role in driving the success of our battery storage trading operations across wholesale markets, BM, and ancillary service markets. You will manage the Shift Trading Team, who are responsible for the 24/7 trading and optimisation of the existing asset portfolio based on-site.
Your responsibilities will include:
Trading & Optimisation
- Lead live power trading and optimisation in UK short-term markets.
- Develop and implement intraday and day-ahead trading strategies, enhancing models, workflows, and desk tools.
- Collaborate with data science, market analysis, and trading teams to refine optimisation approaches.
- Monitor market trends, assess risks/opportunities, and manage exposure within limits.
- Document and maintain core strategies to ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance.
Team Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of intraday traders, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Oversee trading protocols, rota management, and relationships with exchanges.
- Ensure effective collaboration across analysis, tech, and product teams.
- Provide expert insight into GB short-term electricity markets, including wholesale, balancing, and ancillary services.
Required skills and experience:
β Proven experience in UK short-term power trading (day ahead and intraday), ideally with exposure to battery or renewable asset optimisation
β Demonstrated team leadership skills, with the ability to manage and coach a team in high-pressure environments
β A good understanding of trading compliance and credit risk management
β Highly analytical with excellent decision-making skills under time-sensitive conditions
β A track record of delivering successful trading strategies and consistent performance
β Curiosity and an entrepreneurial approach to strategy development
βNice to haveβ skills and experience:
β Experience with BESS assets, including operational characteristics and revenue opportunities
β Working knowledge of Excel VBA or python coding skills are desirable
β Familiarity with automated trading workflows, automated trading strategies and/or algorithmic execution systems
