Process Safety Engineer – DSEAR Specialist
Location: Can be based anywhere across the UK
Salary: £58,000 – £60,000
Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Role Summary
As the Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the site\’s compliance with DSEAR regulations, supporting risk assessments, and driving continuous improvement in process safety performance. You\’ll work closely with engineering, operations, and EHS teams to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement robust safety controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support DSEAR risk assessments, zoning classification, and mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain process safety documentation, including HAZOPs, LOPAs, DSEAR and SIL assessments.
- Provide technical guidance on flammable substances, explosive atmospheres, and ignition source control (HAC)
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure safe design and operation of plant equipment.
- Support COMAH safety report updates and regulatory compliance activities.
- Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Deliver training and awareness sessions on DSEAR and process safety best practices.
- Stay up to date with relevant legislation, standards, and industry developments.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Safety, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in a COMAH-regulated chemical or pharmaceutical environment.
- In-depth knowledge of DSEAR regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and hazardous area classification.
- Familiarity with ATEX, PSM, and other relevant standards.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with process safety software/tools
