Role Purpose: To lead and manage the site's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance within a COMAH-regulated, high-hazard operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance & Assurance: Ensure compliance with COMAH, COSHH, environmental permits and UK legislation. Act as the primary site interface with the HSE, Environment Agency and other regulators. Lead and support inspections, audits and regulatory engagement.
  • Process Safety & Risk Management: Develop and maintain risk assessments (COSHH, TBRA, HRA). Ensure SOPs and Safe Systems of Work reflect actual site practices. Ensure Management of Change (MOC) is applied and embedded into procedures, training and controls.
  • Environmental, Health & Occupational Risk: Lead engagement with the Environment Agency. Manage health surveillance, workplace exposure monitoring and occupational risks. Oversee PPE standards, fatigue management and lone-working controls.
  • Contractors, Projects & Systems: Maintain the Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Lead internal audits and management reviews.
  • Authority & Accountability: Legal compliance across HSE. Effectiveness of site risk controls. Readiness for regulatory inspection. Authority to stop unsafe work and escalate compliance risks.
