We are looking for a Multiskilled Mobile / Bench Engineer to support the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance across a portfolio of central London sites. This role is hands-on and varied, covering mechanical and electrical maintenance within a building services environment. You’ll work closely with Supervisors, Contract Managers, and the wider engineering team to ensure client assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and in full working order.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
- Maintain plant, equipment, and associated components to a high standard.
- Respond to plant failures, faults, and BMS alarms, using systems for first-line diagnostics.
- Maintain comfortable environmental conditions through effective operation of HVAC plant.
- Undertake fault finding, minor repairs, and small installation works as directed.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times.
- Complete SimPRO instruction sets fully, including photographic evidence where required.
- Ensure logbooks and compliance records for electrical, mechanical, and water systems are accurate and up to date.
- Identify and elevate hazards, statutory maintenance issues, or risks to plant reliability.
- Isolate and make safe electrical or pressure systems where required.
Site & Team Working
- Monitor subcontractors during specialist service visits or repair works.
- Carry out regular housekeeping walk-rounds of plant rooms and client areas.
- Liaise professionally and courteously with clients and end users.
- Communicate maintenance activity and potential impact to stakeholders in advance.
- Support colleagues and share knowledge to ensure safe and continuous site operations.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate records including test reports and service reports.
- Keep Business Support informed of work progress.
- Escalate issues promptly to the Supervisor, Contract Manager, or Account Manager.
Working Pattern
- Monday to Friday core hours with flexibility depending on site requirements.
- Overtime may be required evenings, weekends, or public holidays (not guaranteed).
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- City & Guilds Level II / III (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical discipline.
- Strong Building Services / M&E background.
- Previous experience in maintenance, testing, and fault finding.
- Good understanding of Electricity at Work Regulations and safe working practices.
- Experience working with plant such as boilers, ventilation systems, pumps, generators, switchgear, lighting, and small power.
- Strong communication skills and customer-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- 18th Edition I.E.E (role dependent).
- City & Guilds BS 2391 Level 3 – Inspection & Testing.
- IOSH Working Safely.
- PASMA and IPAF (1b / 3a / 3b).
- Unvented hot water systems training.
- Experience with BMS, generators, controls, ACOP L8, cooling towers, pressurisation and ventilation systems.
- High Voltage experience (electrical roles only).
